Gaze at the distant mountains

“Gaze at the distant mountains” is a rural construction project located in Beijing’s Fangshan District, making full use of its unique “open the door to see the mountain” terrain. It breaks away from the monotonous layout of traditional red-brick row houses in the surrounding area, employing a framed architectural language to outline dynamic, terraced contours that embrace the natural landscape, whispering to the sky and resonating with the mountains. The architecture encloses an inward-facing courtyard, creating separate paths for people and vehicles. Elevated viewing spaces guide visitors to wander within, offering a spiritual sanctuary beyond the bustling city. The mountain retreat stands like a “Noah’s Ark” amidst the hills, secluded and healing, seeking a spiritual retreat. Utilizing perforated brick walls and skylights, natural light is introduced, with light and shadow interplaying across the walls, spilling into the indoor and underground spaces. Every shift of time brings clarity and freedom to the corners of the space, touching the depths of the soul.
