The Theatrics of Light
The original building is a typical Mediterranean-style house that underwent two extensions and renovations; however, due to its age, its spatial layout and functions can no longer meet modern living needs. The goal of this interior renovation is to reorganize the space through methods of “deconstruction” and “merging,” maximally opening up sightlines, bringing the backyard landscape into the interior, blurring the boundary between inside and outside, and creating an immersive living experience that embraces sunlight and returns to nature.
“Light Villa” centers its design language on “wind, light, and view,” breaking conventional spatial perceptions of “home” to construct a panoramic, immersive symbiosis with nature, making natural elements the space’s sovereign. Interior walls are largely finished in warm-toned artistic plaster; their soft tactile quality harmonizes with the cool texture of natural stone used inside. Floors and cabinetry use warm oak, visually extending outdoors to meet the lime-stone mosaic paving for a natural transition that blurs the building’s edges and conveys a wild, natural vitality.
The design employs signature Mediterranean elements such as arches, adds skylights for enhanced daylighting, and optimizes spatial circulation so that light, landscape, and daily life seamlessly integrate, making residents active participants in nature.
