Lan Bathhouse
Water is a deeply accommodating element of nature, and architecture serves as the vessel that captures this embrace. Drawing inspiration from the spirit of ancient Roman bathhouses, Lan Bathhouse uses a modern design language to recreate an urban “sanctuary for the soul.”
Stripping away superfluous ornamentation, the space hands the narrative back to the tactile qualities of materials and the nuance of light and shadow. Backlit, translucent onyx glows like liquid jade, infusing the space with a raw, primal vitality; rough-hewn sandstone tiles interlock with continuous vaulted arches, creating a cave-like sense of shelter and cocooning enclosure. Darkened ceilings and low-level ambient lighting close the psychological distance between people and water. Here, fluid, steam, wood aroma, and warm minerals intertwine—allowing visitors to do more than simply bathe, but to rediscover their body’s natural rhythm within the ebb and flow of light and shadow.
